Missouri Law, ยง343.010 RSMo, defines an auctioneer as an individual "who sells goods, merchandise, or property of any kind, at public or private auction, for another person, and who receives any commission or compensation of any kind for conducting such sale."
Any individual who fits the definition of an auctioneer and conducts their trade or business in Boone County must have a valid auctioneer license.
An individual conducting a sale for any of the following reasons is not considered an auctioneer; and therefore would not need a county auctioneer license.
The Boone County Collector has the responsibility of collecting the fees and issuing an auctioneer license. The fees range from ten dollars ($10.00) to fifty dollars ($50.00) depending on the period of time the license is valid. Auctioneer licenses are valid from the dates indicated on the license.
The collector's office accepts license and permit payments by cash, personal check, cashier's check, bank draft, money order or credit cards. One check may be written for multiple bills of licenses or permits, personal property, and/or real estate, if the total of the bills are added correctly. The entire amount due for the license or permit must be paid before one can be issued. Please do not send cash through the mail. License or permit fees cannot be paid online or by phone.
Please see the Methods of Tax Payment page for detailed information.
For information on obtaining a Boone County Auctioneer License, contact the Boone County Clerk at (573) 886-4295; or the Boone County Collector at (573) 886-4285.
